How CardValueFinder Works
Our platform combines Google Gemini AI computer vision with real-time marketplace data to deliver fast, detailed card evaluations without the wait or cost of professional grading services.
📸 Upload Your Card Photo
Take a clear photo of your card — front and back if possible. Our AI works best with well-lit shots free of heavy glare. Most smartphones produce excellent results.
🤖 AI Identifies the Card
Google Gemini AI analyzes the image to identify the card's player, set, year, variation, and any special attributes (rookie, autograph, refractor, etc.) with high accuracy.
🔬 Condition Estimated via Digital Mint Score™
The AI evaluates centering, corner sharpness, edge integrity, and surface quality — each scored 1–10 — then computes a composite Digital Mint Score (0–100) reflecting the card's overall condition.
💰 Market Value Cross-Referenced
Your score maps to estimated PSA, BGS, and SGC grade equivalents. We then cross-reference recent sold listings from eBay, Goldin Auctions, and TCGPlayer to surface a realistic value range.
Our Grading Methodology
The Digital Mint Score™ is CardValueFinder's proprietary 0–100 condition index. It mirrors the four pillars used by PSA, BGS, and SGC — translated into a continuous scale for nuanced AI analysis.
Centering
Front & back left/right and top/bottom alignment ratios
Corners
Sharpness and fraying of all four card corners
Edges
Nicks, chips, and roughness along all four edges
Surface
Scratches, print defects, creases, and print lines
Each of the four categories is scored 1–10 by the AI. The Digital Mint Score is calculated as the weighted average of these four sub-scores, scaled to a 0–100 range. The score then maps to standard industry grade equivalents:
| Digital Mint Score | Est. PSA Grade | Est. BGS Grade | Condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| 92 – 100 | PSA 10 | BGS 9.5 / 10 | Gem Mint |
| 80 – 91 | PSA 9 | BGS 9 | Mint / Near Mint-Mint |
| 70 – 79 | PSA 8 | BGS 8 – 8.5 | Near Mint-Mint |
| 55 – 69 | PSA 6–7 | BGS 6.5 – 7.5 | Near Mint / Ex-Mint |
| Below 55 | PSA ≤5 | BGS ≤6 | Excellent or lower |
Market values are derived from recent sold listings — not asking prices. We prioritize the most recent 90 days of sales data to reflect current market conditions.
Data Sources
Accurate valuations depend on comprehensive, current sales data. CardValueFinder references the following sources to build its value estimates:
-
eBay Sold Listings — The world's largest secondary card marketplace. We reference completed "sold" listings, not active listings, to reflect true transaction prices.
-
Goldin Auctions — Premier auction house for high-value and vintage cards. Critical for rare and graded card valuations above PSA 8.
-
TCGPlayer — The leading marketplace for Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, and other trading card game (TCG) singles. Especially important for Pokémon card valuations.
-
PSA Population Reports — PSA's public population data helps contextualize supply. High-population PSA 10s are weighted differently than rare, low-pop gems.
-
Beckett Price Guide Reference Ranges — Beckett's Hi/Lo ranges serve as a sanity check on AI-derived estimates, particularly for vintage cards with thin secondary market activity.
Accuracy & Limitations
CardValueFinder is designed to be a powerful starting point — not a certified appraisal. Understanding our limitations helps you use the tool wisely:
AI Estimates Are Not Guaranteed. Computer vision cannot replicate the tactile assessment a professional grader makes when holding your card. Surface texture, print quality, and subtle mechanical damage may not be fully captured in a photograph.
Photo Quality Matters. Blurry, poorly lit, or angled photos will reduce accuracy. For best results, photograph cards under natural light against a neutral background, keeping the camera parallel to the card face.
Grading Company Results May Differ. PSA, BGS, SGC, and CGC grades are determined by trained human graders applying each company's proprietary standards. Our AI grade equivalents are estimates based on visible condition factors — your actual submitted grade may be higher or lower.
Market Values Are Snapshots. The sports card market is volatile. Values can shift significantly after a player performance, a breaking news event, or a major auction result. Always verify with current sold listings before buying or selling.
⚠️ Not Financial Advice
CardValueFinder's estimates should not be used as the sole basis for buying, selling, or insuring sports cards or Pokémon cards. For high-value transactions, we strongly recommend professional grading and independent appraisal.
